Why choose Corvidae?

About Jonathan Edwards

Multi-instrumentalist/producer Jonathan Edwards was born in St. John's, Newfoundland, raised in Sydney, Nova Scotia, spent many years in the Halifax area and now calls Ottawa, Ontario home. With nearly 20 years of professional experience, Jonathan has had a varied and multifaceted music career covering stage, theatre, recording, and TV performances.

Jonathan has been known mostly as a bassist and backing vocalist, particularly with the fretless 6 string bass he has used to back up many acoustic-based artists over the years. However, in addition to his bass work, Jonathan has contributed much stylish and tasteful acoustic and electric guitar playing on the recordings he has produced from his studio, Corvidae Music, along with regular forays into mandolin, keyboards, Turkish oud, and percussion.

Career highlights include three East Coast Music Award nominated albums as bassist with Juno award winning Halifax-based singer/songwriter Amelia Curran, as well as producing, engineering and playing on the Canadian Aboriginal Music Award nominated “Hold On Forever” by Ottawa-based singer/songwriter John Boudrias in 2009.

Having explored many musical tangents through his career, Jonathan has returned to the more folky, acoustic based music of his earlier career in 2010, with the focus of his production work being singer/songwriters, working with them in person as well as through internet-based collaborations. Look for new releases in 2010 by Sidney, BC singer/songwriter Geoff Noble and the Edmonton, AB duo of vocalist Linda MacDonald and guitarist Bruce Matichuk.

About Corvidae Music

After working in Dalhousie University's Instructional Media Services department doing multimedia support, live sound and audio recording, Jonathan began Corvidae Music in 2006 as a small, spare bedroom setup recording demos for several local artists. After moving to Ottawa in 2007, Corvidae expanded to a two-room setup with several computers, much more outboard equipment and with a 24 channel console. Since then, Jonathan has produced many demo recordings for local Ottawa-area artists such as Sharon Cardiff, Shayne Orok, and Carny Corbett, as well as full length projects such as John Boudrias' CAMA nominated “Hold On Forever”. Jonathan also played many or in some cases most of the instruments on those recordings, along with such stellar musicians like Don Reed (Dwight Yoakam, South Mountain). In 2010, Corvidae Music has been focusing its energies into primarily acoustic-based music, with Sidney, BC singer/songwriter Geoff Noble's full-length project heralding this approach, as well as internet based online collaborations with artists all over the country.
