Past News and Updates
September 2011: September sees the release of Sills & Smith's Uncertain Vista, which was produced by Jonathan Edwards and recorded and mixed at Corvidae. Uncertain Vista is an eclectic mix of original songs ranging from the rocking No Safety Net to the epic country twang and soaring vocals in Spiraling Down and every point in between. A video was also shot for A Writer's Retreat which will be out in the next couple of weeks. A CD release party will be held at the Corner Bar and Grill on Sept. 16th. For more information, please visit the Sills & Smith Reverbnation page. Uncertain Vista is available for sale through CD Baby, iTunes, Amazon, and select Ontario retailers.
July 2011: It's been a very hectic summer at Corvidae with multiple projects in progress at once. New this month is Sills and Smith's full-length all original project Uncertain Vista, due to be completed in August. I'm helping Jeremy and Frank with bass, drums, and additional guitars along with the production duties. Two completed tracks are in the player, the pounding "No Safety Net" and the alt-country meets classical "Spiraling Down". Thrilled to be working on this one!
May 2011: May brings some very interesting work to Corvidae Music, this month has me recording a 4 CD set of crystal bowl meditations with Jeremy Sills (also with Sills and Smith) and Doug Henderson. The bowls are a tremendous challenge to record but well worth the experience, it's a hypnotic sound that is truly otherworldly. The first of these CD's will be released later this month.

March 2011: The last two months have been very busy and extremely exciting, lots of mastering work going on, more internet collaborating, as well as a trip to Nashville! Drake Jensen, who recorded several demos here in the last couple of months, invited me to travel to Nashville to watch his debut CD On My Way To Finding You being brought to life by veteran producer Kim Copeland. Drake's also brought me onboard as bandleader and bassist for live work!
Also new this month is the recording debut of "Marilla", my upright bass that I picked up in December last year. I played her along with slide guitar and drums on Ottawa duo Sills and Smith's cover of Kilbey-Kennedy's "Mountain". Check it out in the player.
January 2011: 2011 brings some new activity at Corvidae, some major acoustical upgrades are underway along with now having acquired an early 1900's Czech upright. Quite a bit of mixing and mastering going on too, as well as some continuing collaborative projects across the country.
November 2010: After a brief hiatus following Geoff Noble's Ocean Song release, things have been busy again with some new project work; a new country CD project with Ottawa's Drake Jensen, continued collaboration with Edmonton's Linda MacDonald, several mixing and mastering projects, as well as some studio upgrades. On top of all that, I've taken up playing upright bass again, something I haven't played in about 15 years!
September 2010:
Geoff Noble's CD Ocean Song has been released; produced and recorded by Jonathan at Corvidae. Ocean Song is now available via CD Baby, iTunes, and Amazon, as well as via Geoff's website. Click here to visit Geoff's website and to hear samples of the album. Copies are also available at the Ottawa Folklore Centre. Ocean Song is a collection of 10 of Geoff's original songs as well as one traditional song that celebrates the beauty of the natural world. Prince Edward Island fiddler Richard Wood also makes guest appearances on three songs. Check it out!

July 2010: Mixing and mastering of Geoff Noble's CD Ocean Song has been completed, to be released in the first week of August. Also in August, I'll be travelling to BC for some vacation as well as to play with Geoff at the CD release on August 8th at the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney. Click here for the concert info.
Work also continues on another collaboration with the Edmonton, AB duo of Linda MacDonald and Bruce Matichuk.
May 2010: Work continues on Geoff Noble's new CD, "Ocean Song", most of the tracks nearing the final mix stage. Renowned PEI fiddler Richard Wood will be making a guest appearance on three of the songs, with sessions happening at the end of the month. Also, an internet collaboration with Campbellton, NB singer/songwriter Rick Hutchinson (guest backing vocals by Paul Hutchinson of Kerozen) resulted in a cover of Bob Dylan's "Forever Young". Check it out in the media player.
A new Universal Audio UAD-2 card has been added to the system along with some additional plugins, resulting in much more processing capacity for mixing and mastering.
April 2010: Tracking and mixing of Geoff Noble tracks mostly.
Major equipment changes as well, the venerable Behringer MX9000 console has been retired, replaced with ART Tubefire 8 mic preamps, Mackie Big Knob Studio Control, and Behringer BCF2000 progammable control surface. The major guts of the studio can now all be crammed into a movable rack so mobile recording can be more easily done.
March 2010: Finishing up Linda MacDonald's song "For the Love", now in the media player on the front page of the site.
Recording sessions late in the month with my old friend Geoff Noble, formerly of Nova Scotia now based in Sidney, BC for his new CD to be released later this summer.
January-February 2010: Working on an internet collaboration with Edmonton-based singer/songwriter Linda MacDonald and my brother Vaughn in Halifax.
November 2009: John Boudrias' CD "Hold On Forever" nominated for a Canadian Aboriginal Music Award in the Best Country Album category, recorded, mixed and mastered at Corvidae Music, with special guest appearance by Don Reed on fiddle. We didn't win, but it was still a great honour to be nominated, especially for it being John's debut CD, and Corvidae Music's first official full length production!
October 2009: Working with Ottawa-based pianist/vocalist Shayne Orok on his iTunes-released single "This Nightmare".
