With a highly successful 2012 behind us (critically acclaimed releases by Sills and Smith, Drake Jensen's Christmas album and duet with Willam Belli, meeting and collaborating with new artists), 2013 is promising to be an even bigger year at Corvidae. We've got a hugely busy first half of the year planned with new recordings going out by Drake Jensen, Chelsey June, Sills and Smith, Tia McGraff, and Victoria Powell.
Drake Jensen's first single from his OUTlaw album "When It Hurts Like That" was released to YouTube on Feb. 12. We travelled to Winston-Salem, NC in January to film the video with Blake Faucette and Justin Reich of All Aces Media, it's a great looking video that I'm happy to have made an appearance in, playing electric guitar in the band shots, thanks for making me look cool guys! The album will be available online as of the Feb. 12th with physical copies available shortly after.
Closer to home, new Ottawa artist Chelsey June recorded her debut release "Seize the Day" here over the course of last summer and fall. Chelsey isn't very easy to categorize, but her album is a very cool mix of pop, country, and rootsy flavours. She's got a wonderfully versatile voice and she's a great writer to boot, her album should be out in the coming weeks. I also shot a 'making of' video for Chelsey marking my first official foray into video production at Corvidae, a service I plan on expanding on this year.
Ottawa indie rock duo Sills and Smith will be back in the studio in February as well. With Jeremy's return to Ottawa from his South American travels, we'll pick up where we left off last fall and get the new album done, nowhere better to be in February than in a nice warm studio.
And finally, March will have Ottawa singer/songwriter Victoria Powell in to do some songs at Corvidae. She's an amazing talent, made all the more incredible by the fact that she's only 15. She brings a maturity to her music that you'd never guess that she's still in her teens.
